For some children life story work is essential to help them understand who they are, where they come from, what's happened and why. Being able to make sense of their past, as well as to explore their present and future is the main focus of our life story work.
Life story work has traditionally been used for adopted children, or those in long term placements away from their birth families. We believe it can also be effective in an endless list of situations for many different children. The narrative a child holds about any significant event plays a role in shaping them throughout their lives and life story work can be used effectively to help them make sense and understand their journey so far.
The aims and outcomes of life story work with any child are for them to develop at their own pace and in an age appropriate way, some understanding and acceptance of their life history, their present and their future which will equip them with the tools for a more positive and healthy self-identity.
Where: At home, in school, in the community, at one of our family rooms or in a location nearer to you.
How Much: Private Funded - Our life story work is charged hourly and sessions are booked weekly, twice weekly or less often depending on the development and engagement with the child. It's an entirely child focussed service but we are very happy to work within budgets to a degree.
For Agency funded work please email us to get in touch where we can provide a quote.

Timescales: Life story work is a progressive piece of work. It will always start with research and preparation work, then some time getting to know the child before delving into the actual work. For some children this is 8 - 10 sessions, but for others it could be much longer.
